Gorghi Tondi: Guardians of Sicilian Terroir 

Nestled in the sun-baked coastal plains of western Sicily, near Mazara del Vallo, Gorghi Tondi is a family-owned winery where ancient landscapes and modern sustainability converge. Named after the enigmatic circular lakes (“gorghi”) that punctuate its vineyards, natural karstic sinkholes now part of a protected nature reserve, the estate is a testament to Sicily’s wild beauty and ecological richness. Founded in 2004 by sisters Clara and Annamaria Sala, the winery champions organic viticulture across 50 hectares of vineyards, where indigenous varieties like Grillo, Zibibbo, and Nero d’Avola flourish alongside international grapes under the influence of salty sea breezes and mineral-rich clay soils.

Gorghi Tondi’s philosophy intertwines innovation with tradition. Solar-powered cellars, biodiverse vineyard ecosystems, and low-intervention winemaking yield wines of vibrant purity, such as the saline-driven Grillo Coste a Preola and the sun-soaked Nero d’Avola Ghiaccio. 

Balancing respect for the land with a pioneering spirit, Gorghi Tondi captures the essence of Sicily’s coastal soul, offering wines that are as evocative as the mirrored lakes that inspire their name.
