Basilicata: Elena Fucci
Aglianico is considered with Sangiovese and Nebbiolo to be one of the three greatest native grape of Italy. The grape variety finds its greatest expression on the volcanic soils of Taurasi and Taburno in Campania, and Monte Vulture in Basilicata.

Aglianico wine is often called "Barolo of the South" because of its generous fruit, high tannin structure, high acidity and great potential for long aging. However, grown in South Italy on volcanic soil, the taste of Aglianico wine differs from Barolo because of the mixture of red and black fruits (while Barolo is more red fruits orientated), and the presence of sulfur and flint stone notes in the wines.

Aglianico del Vulture of Basilicata is known to be of the most intense expression because of the micro-climate. The land enjoys a warmer micro-climate, but at the same time, it has an exposure to cooling influences from the Adriatic sea. This complex micro-climate condition gives the wines a high balance of fruits and acidity!

Elena Fucci is the most iconic winery at Vulture, and her Titolo the most famous single vineyard wine from Monte Vulture. The name Titolo is a short name of "Contrada Solagna del Titolo", one of the highest vineyard on Vulture.

Many compares the wines of Elena Fucci with those from Barbara Sandrone. Elena used to age her "Titolo" in 100% new barriques, but over the years, this has been reduced to 50% new oak in order to achieve higher purity and typicity. The 2017 "Titolo by amphora" is a new wine, aged in untreated terracotta amphora and released in very limited quantities (933 bottles made).

Elena started her winery in 2000 to stop her grand parents from selling their family vineyards. In 2016, she started to help out her grand father's friends as well, as they became too old to work in their vineyards. Elena took over their vineyards and made a wine in a more approachable style (shorter maceration, and the use of Tonneux to make the wine smoother). While the 2016 and 2017 vintages were shared among the local community, the 2018 was released to the market under the SCEG label, which means "pomegranate", and in the local dialect means "good luck, wealth, and prosperity".
